The Hidden Joys of Home Ownership
Take a spin through the testimonials on my website at www.denvernook.com/testimonials and you’ll get a sense of how happy my clients are to be in their homes, because owning your own home is a pretty big deal!
There are obvious tangible benefits, like building equity as you pay your mortgage, and obvious intangible benefits, like feelings of pride and security, but there are a lot of awesome things about owning a home that you might not often think of if you’ve been renting for a while.
Here are a few!
In an Apartment You Can Paint the Walls, In Your Home You Can Move Them
Painting your walls a new color makes your apartment feel more homey, but you always know in the back of your mind that your security deposit depends on painting them back. In your house, you can paint whatever you want. Even better, as long as a structural engineer says it’s OK, you can knock down walls and re-engineer your floor plan to be most livable for you. Let’s face it, not every home is as well thought out as my new listing on 32nd St. in the Highlands, and having the ability to rethink your own home setup is a game changer.
Little Changes Can Make a Big Impact
One of my favorite aspects of interior design to play with in a home are the lighting fixtures. How many apartments have you seen with an ugly bedroom ceiling fan, or a basic kitchen light, or a janky bathroom sconce? I have for sure seen my share. Upgrading your lighting fixtures to be more in line with your personal style is a HUGE boost to the vibe in your home, and can often be done pretty reasonably.
It Can Be Beneficial for Your Health
There is research showing that health outcomes are better for homeowners. (If you’re into reading research papers, check it out at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3098470/) Researchers note that there are many potential reasons and associations for this, including many of the challenges that keep home ownership out of financial reach for people, but the results do suggest that there is some mental and physical benefits that homeowners experience, which is pretty fascinating!
All of that being said, the most important thing is that you are in the right home for you, your life, and your financial situation. I am standing by to help make sure that happens for you.
